EP 1: Cry-It-Out Versus Ride-It-Out?: A 3rd Choice for Tired Parents

There’s a misconception out there that there are only two choices when it comes to supporting your baby’s sleep: cry it out, or ride it out.

And as much as I tend to lean towards letting sleep development unfold (ride it out, within reason), this false dichotomy really does a disservice to parents.

In this episode I explore why I believe this false dichotomy exists, and what to do instead.

I talk about:

  • Three beliefs that make sleep training seem like the “best” approach

  • Three myths of attachment-based sleep support that can feel unattainable for many parents

  • How to find a middle ground by:

    • understanding sleep development,

    • solving underlying sleep problems,

    • supporting your baby’s sleep in a responsive way, and

    • reframing our role (and our self-care!)
