Hi, I’m Heather Boyd - occupational therapist, mom of 3, & sleep expert!
My holistic approach looks at your perspectives on sleep and infant development, as well as on the biology and attachment of sleep and development. I explore how to create an environment that supports babies, and your overall wellness. This means:
Understanding what impacts development
Implementing small changes, not drastic ones
Trusting your baby to develop new abilities over time
Eliminating barriers that can make sleep and infant development more difficult
Optimizing sleep (your baby’s and your own!) through routines and environment
Exploring family factors that can make parenting through the sleep (and other!) challenges easier
By understanding why your baby does what they do (including waking up in the night!), you can support their needs with confidence and make decisions that feel good.

Sleep challenges may be what brought you here, but it’s only part of your story…
Many families struggle with supporting their baby’s sleep in the first three years. But it’s not just about sleep. A sleep challenge can be be both a developmental process that takes time, and a sign that other areas require support. When we work together, it’s rarely just about sleep.
We may also talk about:
Understanding infant development
Developing strategies for supporting you and your baby
Setting up healthy indoor spaces, routines, and activities
Working towards parent self-regulation and wellness
Exploring everyone’s sleep, including your own and your partner’s.
Ruling out contributing factors that get in the way of sleep, wellness, and family function
Discovering ways to support infant and child development with simplicity and evidence-based knowledge
Discussing the wellness of your family overall
Daytime rhythms and routines that support family function and child development
Potty training, mealtimes, discipline, and other aspects of parenting and child development
My approach encompasses all of these factors because it is rarely just about sleep.
This is why I offer courses, workshops, and consultations on infant development, parenting, healthy homes, and environmental health. It is also why I work collaboratively and refer to other supports when appropriate including play therapists, parent coaches, naturopaths, osteopaths, chiropractors, psychologists/therapists, and indoor environmental professionals, and building biologists.
I am a frequent speaker at professional conferences and symposiums, and provide education to health care providers and sleep consultants about addressing sleep issues, attachment-based parenting, and environmental health and wellness.
Why does it feel so difficult?
Babies haven’t changed much. But the world around them has.
Challenges with infant sleep, and questions about infant development require a holistic, evidence-based, and compassionate approach that acknowledges a family’s strengths, and a child’s uniqueness. It also requires a biological-, and attachment-based approach that does not force change, but rather encourages small shifts in the parenting and the physical environment that create long-lasting, positive changes in child and family development.
Why is working with me so different?
I listen.
I work with families to identify strengths, needs, and options to create environments that are nurturing and healthy for the whole family.
I provide assessment, education, and recommendations for supporting sleep and infant development.
A little help on your parenting journey can make it feel a lot less difficult.
I value your knowledge, intuition, and vision for your family, your children, and yourself.
